The Stellantis plant in Cassino is preparing for another production shutdown, beginning tomorrow, Friday, May 30, 2025, and lasting until Monday, June 9. This new shutdown marks a difficult time for the Lazio site, which continues to face persistent issues.

Figures for the first quarter of 2025 show a sharp decline: only 4,655 units were produced, a significant drop from 8,540 in the first quarter of 2024. This negative trend underscores the challenges the Cassino plant is facing.

Stellantis Cassino plant: the cause of the new production stop

The Stellantis plant in Cassino is facing yet another production stoppage, the main cause of which is once again the persistent shortage of orders and orders. This issue, now a constant for the Lazio site, makes yet another stoppage of activities inevitable.

Production data since the beginning of the year confirm a sharp decline in vehicle production. The first quarter of 2025, in particular, saw a decrease of more than 45 percent compared to the same period last year. Specifically, just 4,655 units were produced in the first quarter of 2025, a figure significantly lower than the 8,540 cars assembled in the first quarter of 2024.

This negative trend is increasingly evident, especially when compared with the results of previous years. As a result, days worked at Cassino in the first five months of the year are falling sharply.

According to the latest FIM CISL report, production figures for the Cassino plant in the first quarter of the year were described as “alarming” by general secretary Ferdinando Uliano. The figures reveal a specific breakdown of production: 53 percent went to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, 26 percent to the Alfa Romeo Giulia, and the remaining 21 percent to the Maserati Grecale.

These production findings point to a critical situation: in Cassino, activity took place for less than ten days per month in the first few months of the year. Out of a total of 98 days, only 48 days were worked. This means that the Lazio plant was idle for more than 50 percent of the available time.

This worrying trend could continue until the end of the year and, based on some rumors about future Alfa Romeo models, potentially beyond. Currently, the Cassino plant produces the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio models, as well as the Maserati Grecale. However, the new generations of the two Alfa Romeo-branded models, which are expected to be based on the new STLA Large platform, are running behind schedule.

The stop that will last from tomorrow until next June 9 follows one that ended only last May 14, after a stoppage of about a month. It should also be pointed out that not all of the approximately 2,500 workers currently employed in Cassino have been present during the working days, as some 600-700 workers are affected by the continued use of social shock absorbers. At the same time also at the production plant in the province of Frosinone soon an incentive exit plan will be proposed.
