(June 24, 2025) – Peugeot strengthens its position in the hybrid vehicle market by introducing a new kind of intelligent hybrid powertrain on the 408, prized for its attractive design and practicality.
Intelligent hybrid technology, first introduced domestically with the Peugeot 308 last April, is a newly developed propulsion system that combines a 48V battery and an electric motor to simultaneously improve fuel efficiency and responsive driving. Peugeot will extend the application of the intelligent hybrid propulsion system to its crossover, the 408, which offers the advantages of both a sedan and SUV, and will begin large-scale domestic sales on the 24th.
The Peugeot 408, which debuted in the domestic market in 2023, has demonstrated a strong presence through its dynamic design and agile driving feel, establishing itself as a “flagship model,” accounting for 35.5 percent of Peugeot’s total sales from 2024 to date. The combination of a sleek silhouette created by a reduced overall height of 1,500 mm, a contrasting overall length of 4,700 mm and a wheelbase of 2,790 mm for a spacious interior, and the “Cat’s Ear” at the rear of the roof with an air resistance coefficient of 0.28 cd, boasts a strong road presence. A grille design with a sophisticated and bold look and daytime running lights in the shape of lion’s tusks complete Peugeot’s unique identity.
Peugeot’s traditional aviation-inspired interior further enhances the intuitive and enjoyable driving experience. The i-Cockpit®, featuring an ergonomic design that includes a compact D-shaped steering wheel and a 3D head-up instrument cluster, ensures intuitive operation. The model is also equipped with many useful features, such as the i-Connect® infotainment system with a highly responsive and intuitive 10-inch high-resolution screen and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto with smartphone mirroring function. It also offers the high practicality of an SUV, with an expandable trunk from 536 liters as standard to a maximum of 1,611 liters with the rear seats folded down.
Here we are improving the quality of our products, including the hybrid powertrain system that has recently emerged as a trend in the automotive market, to reach domestic consumers who have high standards for fuel economy, driving pleasure and safety.
Peugeot’s intelligent hybrid system consists of a 1.2-liter PureTech gasoline engine, a 48-volt lithium-ion battery, and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (e-DCS6) specifically for hybrid vehicles. The electric motor is integrated into the gearbox, enabling its operation and regenerative braking during startup and departure, maximizing efficiency.
In particular, in urban settings, electric power can be used for about 50 percent of the total driving time, enjoying the quietness and smoothness of driving an electric vehicle in situations such as traffic jams, parking lots, and restarts after a stop. In addition, precise steering wheel response and high-speed stability from motorsport know-how complement the unique, agile and light driving experience typical of Peugeot.

The 408 Smart Hybrid boasts a maximum output of 145 horsepower [1]by combining the engine and electric motor and delivers 136 hp of engine power, 15.6 kW of electric motor power and a maximum torque of 23.5 kg m and 5.2 kg m respectively. The combined fuel efficiency is 14.1 km/l and records 13.7 km/l in city driving and 14.7 km/l on the highway. Carbon dioxide emissions are 114 g/km and it has obtained national certification as a Type 2 low-emission vehicle, so it can also receive various discount benefits on public parking and congestion tolls.
The upper GT trim features ▲I-Toggle display ▲Clean Cabin air purification system ▲Massage seats ▲Wireless charging tray for mobile devices and creates a sophisticated atmosphere with ambient lights in eight colors. It is also equipped with advanced driver assistance safety systems (ADAS). Several safety features come as standard, such as ▲Adaptive cruise control (ACC) with stop-and-go function ▲Driver attention alert system ▲Road sign recognition system ▲Lane departure warning system ▲Front collision warning system ▲Rear park assist system. In addition, the GT trim has numerous driver assistance features, such as ▲Blind spot warning system ▲Full LED matrix headlights ▲Automatic high beam control ▲360-degree panoramic camera.

The official selling price of the 408 Smart Hybrid is 43.9 million won for the Allure and 48.9 million won for the GT . Considering the reduced consumption tax, the GT can be purchased for 48.174 million won . ( The Allure trim will be available at a later date.)
Bang Sil, CEO of Stellantis Korea, said, “The 408 Smart Hybrid will offer expanded hybrid options for customers who value efficiency and style,” adding, “We will ensure that Peugeot, with its strong personality, can establish itself as an attractive alternative in the rapidly growing hybrid market.”
Meanwhile , Peugeot is applying a fixed-price consignment sales system to the 408 Smart Hybrid, following the example of the 308 Smart Hybrid. Since the vehicle can be purchased at the same price and with the same benefits from any dealer across the country, consumers will enjoy a more efficient and transparent buying experience without having to compare prices or negotiate with dealers. Peugeot’s price guarantee system, “Peugeot Promise,” will also be implemented, which compensates for the price difference if it is confirmed that the vehicle was sold for less than the official sale price. Through this system, the company aims to prioritize customer trust and build a fair and consistent distribution environment.
More information about the 408 Smart Hybrid is available at Peugeot showrooms across the country and on the official website (https://www.epeugeot.co.kr).
