Alfa Romeo will unveil a new C-segment SUV in the fourth quarter of 2027. Designed in Turin and scheduled for production at Stellantis’ Melfi plant, the model will use the STLA Medium platform with a multi-energy powertrain strategy and take over the role currently filled by the Tonale. Alfa Romeo has not yet revealed its name, dimensions or the full structure of the lineup.
Alfa Romeo prepares new C-SUV for 2027 as Tonale replacement takes shape
Emanuele Cappellano, Stellantis’ head of Europe, has already shown a close-up image of the rear section and said the Centro Stile team is completing the final details. He also stated that the vehicle “embodies a true Alfa Romeo in character and style,” although the company has yet to reveal its full design.
The move to Melfi changes Alfa Romeo’s production footprint compared with the Tonale, which comes from Pomigliano d’Arco. The future SUV will instead join other Stellantis models based on the STLA Medium architecture at the Melfi plant. The platform can support both hybrid and electric powertrains, but Stellantis has not said which versions will reach the market at launch or disclosed the specifications of their respective systems.
Rumors suggest the SUV could measure around 4.6 meters long, adopt sportier proportions and feature a more upright front end. Other reports mention lithium iron phosphate batteries and an 800-volt electrical architecture, but none of those details appears in official material.
The same applies to a possible Quadrifoglio version with all-wheel drive and more than 400 hp. Such a model would fit Alfa Romeo’s performance tradition, but the company has not provided any technical or commercial confirmation.
Production of the current Alfa Romeo Tonale should end by late 2027, around the same time the new C-SUV is expected to arrive. Alfa Romeo has confirmed that the upcoming model forms part of its Fastlane 2030 strategy, while industry sources describe it as the direct successor to the Tonale. It remains unclear whether production of the two generations will overlap for any period.
The teaser confirms that development has reached an advanced stage, but it still reveals very little about the complete vehicle. Key details regarding dimensions, powertrains, battery technology, performance versions and final styling remain unknown.
