Peugeot CEO Alain Favey recently confirmed that diesel engines will maintain a significant role in the brand’s future range. This statement reassures diesel fans, indicating that Peugeot, part of Stellantis, will continue to focus on this technology in the long term.
Peugeot: diesel will remain in the range for many more years, according to CEO Favey
Diesel remains a mainstay for Peugeot in the long run. CEO Favey reiterated that this engine, fundamental to the brand’s history, will remain an integral part of the range for many years to come. This decision, however, currently rules out investment in the development of HVO bio-diesel.

During a recent question-and-answer session, Favey clearly outlined Peugeot’s positioning strategy. The brand does not intend to compete in the entry-level car segment, discarding the possibility of models based on platforms such as the Citroën C3 or Fiat Grande Panda. Peugeot is firmly confirmed in the “upper mainstream” segment, maintaining a clear distance from purely premium ambitions.
Peugeot: new horizons and sustained growth
As for the D-segment, the successor to the 508 is not in current plans. Instead, Peugeot’s focus is on expansion into new segments, with a particular focus on markets outside Europe. Here, the company plans to focus on the development of pickup trucks and work vehicles, responding to specific needs of these markets.
Peugeot has several exciting innovations in store for the coming years. Prominent among the most anticipated are the new generations of 308 and 408, scheduled to debut during 2028 and 2029, respectively.

The brand’s commitment to quality was also reiterated by the CEO, who highlighted the extensive warranties offered under the “Peugeot Care” program: as many as 10 years on PureTech engines and 8 years on electric vehicles.
Stellantis Group’s Peugeot brand is experiencing a period of significant growth. The CEO expressed satisfaction with the results, highlighting a 6 percent European market share in the first four months of 2025 and an overall sales increase of 8 percent. This success is largely attributed to the excellent reception of the new 3008 and 5008, along with growing appreciation for hybrid engines. Looking to the future, the electric 208 GTI is expected to be unveiled at Le Mans, with market launch scheduled for 2026
