Jeep Grand Cherokee recall defect in climate and possible HVAC fan stop
Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L recall defect in HVAC system
Stellantis recently initiated a recall campaign affecting certain Jeep Grand Cherokee (models WL74) and Grand Cherokee L (models WL75) vehicles produced in 2023. The main reason for this recall is a potential fan motor malfunction within the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system.
This specific glitch could have a significant impact on the vehicle’s ability to properly defrost and demist the windshield. Under certain weather conditions, reduced effectiveness of these systems can seriously impair driver visibility, increasing risks while driving.
As a result, vehicles affected by this problem do not comply with the requirements set forth in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 103, a crucial regulation governing windshield demisting and defrosting systems to ensure road safety.
Stellantis said it will take all necessary corrective actions to resolve the defect. The goal is to restore full functionality of the HVAC systems on the affected vehicles, thereby ensuring driver safety and compliance with applicable regulations.

Jeep Grand Cherokee recalls in the United States: problems with the HVAC System
This problem, the HVAC system’s fan motor defect, can impair the operation of defrosting and demisting and therefore, as anticipated poses a safety risk, as reduced driver visibility increases the likelihood of accidents.
Specifically, 422 units of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, produced between November 2, 2022 and September 18, 2023, may have a fan motor with a damaged electrical connector. 1,267 units of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, produced between Nov. 2, 2022 and Sept. 19, 2023, could also have the same defect.
To identify potentially affected vehicles, Jeep used supplier and vehicle production records. Vehicles produced outside these periods or those with integrated connectors are not part of the recall. The defective fan motor component is supplied by Mahle Industries Incorporated.
Authorized Jeep dealers will do an inspection for certain models and possible replacement of the HVAC fan motor free of charge. This operation, conducted directly by authorized Jeep dealers, will be at no cost to affected owners.
Notification letters regarding this recall will be mailed out beginning July 8, 2025. For any questions or for more information, customers can contact Chrysler Customer Service at 1-800-853-1403, referring to recall number 49C.
